HOTEL PUNTA MESCO
Hotel Punta Mesco, located in Monterosso al Mare, was a clean little hotel in the "new" part of town, a few blocks from the beach. The staff was eager to please and very nice.

CLIMB EVERY STAIRCASE
The Cinque Terre Trail which connects the five towns offers beautiful scenery and a healthy workout! Nina recommended that we start at the town we were staying in, Monterosso, and work our way to Riomaggiore (or wherever we wanted to stop), which was great advice. The leg between Monterosso and Vernazza was the most difficult, although all but the last leg between Manarola and Riomaggiore (the Via dell'Amore) were challenging. If you want to do the hike, have good, sturdy shoes and water. Part of the trail was still closed from the 2011 flooding, and it looks like they close when weather conditions make it hazardous, so be sure to check before you go.
